The mechanism is particularly for discharging goods from a truck with one open side, the truck being lifted and tipped forward with this side at the front. During the initial stages of the lifting operation the side concerned is kept shut off, thus allowing the items above the edge of the barrier to slide off layer by layer. A driven roller (9) is mounted along this edge, and this can be eccentrically fitted on its shaft, thus aiding loosening of the items during the discharging operation, and preventing the formation of bridges.
