The heating process is for blooms, billets etc. in a continuous-flow furnace, these being thrust towards the discharge end over a tipping edge and removed from the furnace by a discharging mechanism. After tipping over the edge, more than one bloom remains in the adjacent portion of the furnace, while the discharge mechanism only extracts the one nearest the discharge end, each of the others being indexed forward one place by it in the manner of a walking-beam furnace. As each bloom etc. is tipped over the edge, it can be thrust by the discharge mechanism into a set position.
