Precession X-ray diffraction camera - has modified mechanical design to permit greater versatility in use with single mounting of crystal

A precision X-ray diffraction camera, consisting of a pair of kinematically connected frames, pivoted to swing about vertical axes, a film holder with film cassette, and a crystal holder with a holder for the goniometric head all turning about horizontal axes, the whole forming a unit with an axis of precession supported in a drive segment, passing through the crystal, and perpendicular to the vertical axes of rotation of the two frames, and with a collimator opposite to the crystal on the same axis. The carrier of the goniometric head with the crystal are arranged to slide in a unit which forms a quarter of a circle integral with the crystal holder of which the axis is perpendicular to the precession axis and the axis of the goniometric head and passes through the crystal, passing through a point where the axis of the collimator, that of the vertical crystal bearing intersect. The arrangement makes it possible to utilise a displacement through a full 90 deg. of the holder of the goniometric head so that exposures can be made in the area of back-scattered radiation and of reciprocal planes in any direction with a single mounting of the crystal.
