Thermal fixing unit for xerographic reproduction machine, consists of a smelter unit for fixing a thermoplastic resinous material to a carrier. The developing material is chosen for the formation of the powder images such that they can be fixed by heat treatment. The fixing unit has a support frame, with a first roller which can rotate in the frame. There is a second roller (557) whose axis can pivot between two positions. In the first position the second rollre does not come into contact with the first roller. In the second position it exerts pressure on the first roller. The movement of the second roller is controlled.
