The olefin preferably contains 10 to 30 carbon atoms, and may be polymerized in the presence of di-t-butyl peroxide, aluminium chloride, borontrifluoride and complexes thereof, and anionic and cationic polymerization initiators. In example (3) 1-decene is polymerized in the presence of aluminium chloride and the product reacted with maleic anhydride and tetraethylene pentamine.
