1493167 Laminated veneer panels FRATELLI ZANGHERI SAS 15 July 1975 [18 July 1974] 29640/75 Heading B5N [Also in Division B2] Veneer panels 17 are produced by (i) conveying a support strip 1 of flexible sheet material, e.g. paper or paper bonded to aluminium sheet, to a first station 4 at which a layer of hot-melt adhesive, e.g. polythene is applied thereto; (ii) conveying it to a second station 6 at which it is cooled to harden the adhesive; (iii) placing veneer sheets on the adhesivetreated face of the strip at a third station 7; (iv) applying heat and pressure at a fourth station by heated platens 9 or calender rolls to bond the veneer sheets to the strip; (v) applying a coating of synthetic resinous plastics material, e.g. a vinylic, polyester, melamine, urea, acrylic or allylic resin, to the exposed face of the veneer sheets at a fifth station 10, (vi) drying the plastics material at a sixth station 11; (vii) applying a desired finish to the plastics coating at a seventh station by press platens 12 or calender rollers, and (viii) cutting off individual veneer panels at an eighth station 15. After step (vii) and before step (viii) a hot-melt adhesive may be applied to the exposed face of the strip, e.g. by means of roller device 13 or by spraying. In step (i) the hot melt adhesive may be applied by smearing or sprinkling.
