1480986 Step-by-step winding of cables H U BREDEMEYER 13 Oct 1975 [11 Oct 1974] 41779/75 Heading D1J To wind a cable 2, Fig. 1, in side-by-side turns on a drum 3, the drum 3 is moved axially relatively to a spindle 7 carrying two guide rollers 6 for the cable 2, there being:- (a) a traversing motor (not shown) for moving the drum 3 axially; (b) a control device, Fig. 2, for said motor comprising a pulse generator 9 adapted to produce a pulse at each rotation of the drum 3 or of the spindle 7; a pulse divider 10 to which the pulses are fed from the generator 9, the output of the pulses from the divider 10 serving to actuate a switch 11 to switch on the traversing motor; (c) a delay element 12 actuated by the pulse divider 10 and serving to actuate the switch 11 to switch off the traversing motor to thus cause the drum 3 to complete one of its step-by-step movements; and (d) two limit switches 13, 14 that serve, when the drum reaches the end of its traversing stroke, to transmit a pulse to the switching device 11 to reverse the direction of the traversing motor as well as to the pulse divider 10 to reset it to zero. In Fig. 2 the pulse generator 9 comprises a control lug 8 at the end of the spindle 7, the lug 9 brushing past an inductive proximity switch 9 at each turn of the spindle to emit a pulse. The spindle 7 is coupled either via suitable gearing to the drive for the cable drum 3 or to a separate electrically driven shaft.
