Voltage breakdown protection for capactive voltage dividers - switches attenuating load to divider intermediate transformer closely after breakdown

The voltage breakdown protection circuit for capacitive voltage dividers consists of several sub-loads whose magnitudes are multiples of the rate load of the divider. An attenuating load is switched to the primary winding of the divider intermediate transformer (T), at the latest 5 m sec. after a breakdown. Preferably an auxiliary inductor (L2) is connected in series with the divider (C1, C2), to detect voltage breakdown, which controls a switch (S) that connects the load (R1) to the intermediate transformer. The transformer may be coupled via another inductor across one of the divider capacitors.
