21-Fluoro-19-nor-pregnadiene derivs. of gen. formula (I): (where X=H, lower alkyl, Cl or F; R1 and R2=H or an acyclic- or carbocyclic hydrocarbon; or R1+R2+C may form a cycloaliphatic ring; are prepd. e.g. by introduction of a 6,7-double bond into a cpd. (II): (where X is in the alpha- or beta-configuration, using pref. 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone in the presence of HCl in water-miscible solvent at- or below room temp. (I) have gestagenic and ovulation inhibitory action and may be used in human and veterinary medicine or as active components in anticonception agents for human or animal use. They may also be used as inters. in the synthesis of other active cpds.
