Adaptable tunnel lining prefabricates - adjustable ring with hydraulic press unit adapts to rock pressure

Adaptable tunnel lining is made from prefabricated elements. Hydraulic press unit (12) allows the lining to be contracted circumferentially to suit rock pressure and the lining has several locking members (1) which enable the lining to adapt to rock pressure shown by rock migration into the tunnel cavity. A filler (2) between the rock (3) and ring of lining elements (4) serves to reduce friction and a rigidly locked ring can be formed once the rock movement has died down and thus replace the locking members. The material of the members can also solidify and thus form the closed and rigid ring which thus prevents further rock movement. Pref. the ring is made up of inner (7) and outer (4) components. Two or more outer components carry cams (6a, 6b) for the inner ring (7) formed in the lower part by components (7a, 7b) so that the inner ring always follows any movement on the part of the outer ring (4).
