The mechanism keeps the intervals constant between items of printed matter produced in a continuous overlapping stream on a transport track. It has a number of barrier members travelling round an endless track. Along one part of this track they travel at regular intervals one behind the other in the same direction as the transport track but slower, and as they do so they extend into the path of the items in front of their leading edges. The members can be mounted at regular intervals along an endless chain, one run of which is closed to the transport track, and they can be arranged to swing out from the rest to the working position in a plane at right angles to their direction of travel.
