A process suitable for removing impurities in zinc-containing solutions formed during the refining of zinc by wet methods, comprises treating such a solution with metallic zinc at a pH below 4 and removing the precipitate (e.g. of Cu, Ni, Cd, Co) thereby formed, and thereafter adding to the solution H 2 O 2 in an amount sufficient to oxidize ferrous iron to ferric iron, adjusting the pH of the solution to 4 or above and removing the precipitate of Fe(OH) 3 so formed. Examples show how the less electropositive metals (Cu, Cd, Ni, Co) affect the efficiency of the H 2 O 2 oxidation of FeSP2+/SP.
