Open type container ship - with container stacks replaced with open profile boxes to carry bulk cargo

The open holds of the double hull container ship are fitted with an array of vertical struts (8) which locate the corners of the containers, which are stacked in vertical stacks. If the ship is to take bulk cargo then special boxes are slid into the stacks. These have no bottoms and sides and serve to contain the bulk cargo and prevent it sliding about at sea. The boxes can be empty containers which are designed with removable floors and roofs. The system also enables mixed cargo to be taken. The system is partic. of use where only a partially full load is to be carried.
