A data marking device for a camera in which an optical device is used to project values of the manually set data e.g. day, month, year, etc onto the photosensitive emulsion carrier has the date setting device (1a, b, c; 2abc, 3abc, 4) constructed as a removable capsule (11). The capsule (11) has a screening device (19, 20, 21, 22) for the optical projection device (17, 18, 22) which is controlled by the motion caused by removal of the capsule (11). The capsule (11) further contains a light source (5), a potential production cell (7) and an electrical control circuit (6) mounted within its body walls.
