The water particles are injected for cooling purposes into hot industrial gases, especially in cooling-towers before the gases are introduced into electro-filters, with part of the heat content used for heating drops which have formed, and more for vaporising them. Pref. in the course of spraying in the hot gas, the particles are electrically charged, and then exposed, simultaneously with the gas, to the effect of an electric field induced to constant changes in flow direction; the field intensity of this produces fluctuation from a fully positive to a fully negative value, so as to accelerate the velocity of the water particles relative to the gas and relative to their speed of fall in the gas. Costs and cooling-tower dimensions can be reduced.
