Integrating kinetic evaporation meter - is used for continuous detection of evaporation losses from lakes and rivers

Two equal spheres 10 cm in diameter have a cladding on their outsides consisting of material which can be moistened easily. One of the spheres is immersed to about half-way in the water whose evaporation is to be measured and the other one is immersed to about the same depth in water whose temperature corresponds to that of the surrounding air above the first water surface. The spheres are made to rotate because of the temperature difference arising as a result of evaporation. Rotation takes place about horizontal axes. The revolutions of the spheres are counted and the volume of water which has evaporated is calculated.
