PREDICTING LAKE EVAPORATION BY THE PERFORMANCE OF EVAPORATION PONDS, PANS, AND TANKS

An investigation was made in 1965 and 1966 at Lake Hefner to determine the relation between evaporation from Class A pans, 9 ft and 15 ft diameter sunken tanks, a 0.3 acre pond (60 miles distant) and a 25 00 acre lake. Evaporation rates of the pond and the 15 ft tank were in close agreement. A model was devel¬oped by which the evaporation from Lake Hefner could be estimated by an equation which expressed lake evaporation as a function of the product of the 15 ft tank evaporation and the ratio of the vapor pressure deficits over the lake and the tank, respect¬ively.
