Uranium is extracted from seawater by circulating seawater through a culture of live mutant algae in the presence of a high concentration of uranium with the concentration in the sea water. Specifically the algae are green and uncellular. No extraneous chemicals are required hence, no pollution is caused by the process and the relative cost of materials is very low compared with prior art chemical methods. Low cost in terms of energy usage.
