The protective covering or wrapping for stacking chairs or the like comprises several layers (P) of corrugated paper sheets which are provided with concave and convex curvatures in chessboard pattern so that the successive layers of paper thereby touch at the apices (Q) of the convex curvatures. The paper layers are preferably stitched together along the edges and at points (K) evenly spread out over the surface of the covering so that the layers are fixed together to provide a stable cover which has a pocket-like section for fitting over the backrest of the chair and an apron for fitting over the seat surface.
