Testing of pipes using internal pressure - has flat end plates connected to internal mandrel tube and subjected to axial end forces

The tube or pipe to be tested is sealed with two closure plates at either end which are in the form of flat plates, and are coaxial with the pipe. An axial force F is applied at either end, which develops an internal test pressure P within the pipe, which are related by the equation F = PS, where S is the surface area of the end plates. Inside the pipe to be tested is a smaller mandrel pipe which is connected to the end plates by concentric annular sealing rings around extension flanges which are fitted to the end plates.
