Carburation-type oil burner - using spray nozzle to obtain stoichiometric flame and hence completely soot free combustion

Oil burner comprises an oil supply pipe (3) with a spray nozzle (4) at one end, and is inserted in a burner head (5) in which is mounted in front of the spray nozzle nozzle a heat exchanger (11) for heating the oil before it enters the oil supply pipe. The heat exchanger is pref. retained concentrically on a perforated baffle plate (12), consists of an axially extending closed hollow body of heat-resistant material filled with steel wool or porous wadding, and has oil inlet openings on the side remote from the nozzle and an oil outlet opening on the side facing the nozzle, so that oil flows through it in countercurrent.
