Basic dyes of formula (I): (where R is an opt. substd. ammonium gp. or an aliphatic, carbocyclic or heterocyclic gp. contg. a gp. -N+R1R2R3; R1 is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkoxy, or amino; R2 and R3 are H; alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, or in combination with each other or with R1, form a heterocyclic ring; and A is an anion), are used for dyeing or printing mordanted cellulose, silk, leather, acetate or anionic-modified synthetic fibres. Also for addn. to polyacrylonitrile spinning solns. or prepn. of pigments for paper printing, by combining with anionic pptants. Brilliant, intense shades with good light- and wet-fastness. Insensitive to pH and can be used in weak and strong acid baths. Resistant to temps. above 100 degrees C and completely reserved by wool.
