The mechanism loads piece goods held at a point of readiness into a vehicle. Conveyor chains at the point of readiness are thrust by a motor onto the vehicle and pulled out from it. At the vehicle side of the readiness point is a device to hold the goods on the vehicle as the chains are being pulled clear. The chains can be of the roller type, and the rollers can run on the vehicle floor and also support the goods, being fitted on the pins coupling the chain link plates together, or working in bearings in the plates between the pins. A set of motor-driven sprockets driving the chains can be mounted at the rear end of the readiness point.
