Flow measurement in open channels - with continuous recording of flow rate derived from water level and velocity

A flexible hose is sandwiched between two vanes in such a way that when the vanes are subjected to water flow they compress the hose. Water from the hose enters a floating cylinder which sinks to a depth which depends on the flow velocity. A second cylinder is operated in the same way to indicate water level and flow cross-section. The two cylinders are connected to each other and their movements are combined to derive a chart recording representing rate of flow.
