The solenoid coil is held by an antimagnetic former in which the soft iron armature slides axially, and the ferromagnetic coil housing is in the form of a sleeve encasing it, joined by a radial end section to a core fitting inside the former. The housing is formed from this sheet metal, preferably by deep-drawing, and the core is stamped into it in a pot shape. The hollow cylindrical former can have a recess open to the outside to take the coil, with its inner chamber divided by a partition into chambers, in one of which the core is sealed, while the armature is accommodated in the other. Former and partition can be in one piece and of the same material, and a cable entry can be provided in one of its end walls.
