In the expansion of trace components enriched by condensn. in the low temp. field, in which liq. N2 is regarded as the max. b.pt., all matls. of higher b.pt. than that of N2 are condensed and simultaneously enriched since a greater amt. of sample can be taken up. The sample enriched as above has a rising characteristic pressure with rising temp. and produces, in metering to a suitable sepg. system, a vapour-pressure dependent gradient; and the pressure gradient favours the sepn. of the whole mixt. with careful treatment of the matl. since the total process corresponds to the natural state of the matl. and is to be carried out without the aid of matl.-changing agents.
