The spring (1) is esp. intended for sprung stop and/or safety devices. In one example the support is a cylindrical plug (2) inserted into the interior of the spring and having a length slightly less than that to which the spring is compressed in operation. The plug is made of resilient material and frictionally engages the convolutions possibly by means of an interference fit. In another example the support is a sleeve made of resilient material and embracing the spring with an interference fit. The support may be made from an elastomer, esp. nitrilbutadiene, may be resistant to chemical and thermal demand, and have a hardness of at least (90sh).
