The closing mechanism for a door is fitted into a door. This mechanism has a housing for the closer rod and a slide with projections in contact with the rod. The slide is connected to a piston rod enclosed by a helical spring which in turn is connected to a damper cylinder. The end of the closing rod projecting from the housing is pivoted on a fixed bearing. A compact configuration is achieved because the internal connecting projections act as stops. Hence excessive external forces are not able to slam the door. The housing (1) has a bulge (2) in the region of the closing mechanism pivot to ensure relative movement for the cams and the slide (45). This slide comes into contact with guide lugs for actuating the damping piston.
