Electronic direction finding appts. - consists of cross-shaped antenna array with goniometer set and associated electronics

An electronic direction detection apparatus for finding the direction of origin of electro-magnetic waves is presented. The arrangement is simpler and more economic than traditional apparatus of this kind. It consists of a cross-shaped array of two antennae which are attached to a goniometer. The adjustable coil of this goniometer is connected to that of the second goniometer and the output of both are used to feed an added and subtractor pair, from these amplifiers and thence a display tube. The angle formed is adjusted until an azimuthal accurate lined diagram appears. The mathematics for an elliptically polarised electro-magnetic signal is presented.
