Tubes, rods, shafts etc., are machined by aligning and paring and if necessary chamfering before further machining in automatics. The material, before or after the scraping, is bent simultaneously at several spaced points by a bending stress at least up to the limit of elasticity and then chamfered one end. The groups of shafts holding spaced rollers are arranged before and/or after the scraping machine parallel to the feed-and take-off path. One group is fixed and the other can be swivelled parallel to the first group. The rollers of one group slide opposite the rollers of the other group and at least one of the groups of rollers can be driven.
