The testing system comprises a high current circuit, a first high voltage circuit supplied from a previously charged capacitor and a second high voltage circuit supplied from an auxiliary transformer. There are two auxiliary switches which are connected to the tested circuit breaker. At first the auxiliary switches and the tested circuit breaker (HS1, Hs2, PS) carrying the high current are connected in series. The auxiliary switch (HS2) in the second high voltage circuit (II) is provided with a parallel circuit consisting of a triggerable spark gap (F2) in series with a commutation capacitor (Cz).
