Synthetic test circuits are used for testing high-voltage circuit breakers under conditions which are intended to correspond to the loads encountered in practice. To match the test conditions to the higher voltages of current power supply systems, the known Weil circuit, which is composed of a high-current circuit and a high-voltage circuit, was supplemented by a further high-voltage circuit, in such a manner that these voltages are added together. According to the invention, an addition of this second high-voltage circuit (II) with simple technical means and at a time which could be determined accurately, was achieved by the fact that the auxiliary breaker (HS2) adding this second high-voltage circuit is acted upon by a charging current (IE) with the opposite direction to the additional current (IZ) of the second high-voltage circuit (II) by means of an RC section (RE, CE) branching off from the first high-voltage circuit (I), in such a manner that the quenching of the arc of the auxiliary breaker (HS2) is forced by an artificial zero crossing.
