The piezoelectric transducer consists of a piezoelectric ceramic wafer (1) which is mounted on a support sheet (2) and which is metallised (20, 21) on both sides. The support sheet has transverse parallel ridges across its longest axis, at right angles to its plane and spaced regularly along it. The transverse ridges each have the shape of a triangle with its longest side forming the base and fixed to the support sheet. (The ridges are on one side of the support sheet, and the piezoelectric ceramic wafer is attached to the other side of the sheet). The transducer is highly efficient and produces relatively large forces.
