Casting grabbed and removed from mould by cranked arm - and tongs advancing longitudinally with ejector and pivoting transversely

A device for removing a casting from a pressure-casting machine, which comprises a movable and a fixed machine plate and an ejector slidably mounted in the movable plate, comprises a grab mechanism with a mechanically, hydraulically or electromechanically operated tongs; the grab mechanism is integrally connected to the ejector in the direction of travel of the ejector. Pref. the grab mechanism comprises a cranked arm, rigidly keyed to a shaft which is parallel to the direction of travel of the ejector (which in turn is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing), this shaft being slidably mounted in a bearing block which itself is mounted upon the moving mould plate. Thus, as the ejector moves transversely to the plane of the drawing to eject the moulding, the grab arm advances with it by axial sliding of the shaft. relative to tis supporting bearing block on the moving mold plate, the arm being pivoted to swin in between the fixed and moving parts of the mold in synchronism with the opening of the mould, whereupon the grab seizes the moulding or casting and then swings out to remove it from the mould. A hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder is pref. used to provide the pivoting action. The only motion applied to the grab device, other than the opening and closing of the jaws, is the pivoting action causing it to swing perpendicular to the direction of travel of the moving mould plate and ejector.
