A device for cold sterilising bottles with sulphurous acids and/or sulphur dioxide, using a dipping wheel, on the circumference of which a closed mantle supports separate cells into each of which a bottle can be inserted and from which, due to their inclination the bottles fall out automatically at about the height of the wheel's axis, as the dipping wheel rotates stepwise, has a housing which is pressure tight except at the service opening. The complete drive transmission, moving the wheel in steps corresponding to the pitch of the bottle cells, and the freshwater spray zone for rinsing the bottles inside and out, are sepd. from the sterilising fluid. At the highest point in the housing there is a suction connection for the gas with a fan, in front of which a syphon creates a mist of freshwater. This dissolves the oncoming gas and returns it to the bath. Supersedes the labour intensive and time wasting dipping trollies as well as stem or hot water sterilisation of the bottle necks.
