Conveyor track layout for casting zone in steelworks - using separate stillages moved by bogies fitted with jacks

Layout for improving the material flow in steelworsk,esp. during the assembly and breakdown operations involved in casting, the novelty being the use of =1 parallel conveyor tracks running from the casting platform area to assembly and dismantling stations; bogies run along the tracks and are employed to move independent stillages either along a main track or along several subsidiary tracks located at 90 degrees to the main track. The stillages are pref. used as beds for the bottom pouring plate, downstick and ingot moulds, the bogies being equipped with jacks which raise the stillages off bed-rails located in the factory floor; and the bogies then transport the stillages to the desired position. Method ensures a systematic and smooth flow of ingot mould assemblies past the casting platform and from assembly zones to breakdown zones without the use of cranes.
