Spike remover for tyre - with hollow shaft cutter to fit round spike and mill away spike head

A spike removal tool has a hollow shaft (1) with a profiled cutting edge (6) which is positioned over the spike (3). As the tool is rotated it separates the spike from the tyre material, with any swarf thrown out through holes (8) in the side of the shaft. A thin layer of rubber is left between the spike and the tool to secure them together. When the tool reaches the spike head (5) the whole spike can be removed by levering sideways. The tyre is not damaged and a new spike can be re-inserted. The tool is fitted to any convenient drill, either bench mounted or portable, and enables an operator to remove spikes at a rapid rate.
