An insert device for use in equalling systems of model railways and in traffic light devices for toy roadway lay outs has a series of light emitting diodes mounted within it. The light emitting diodes provide a uniform illumination for the signals, traffic lights etc, and can be produced in any one of a number of colours e.g. red, yellow, green etc. The current required to operate such devices is considerably smaller than that required for operation of conventional toy signals etc, with miniature glowing filament bulbs, and the illumination produced is of greater compactness and intensity.
