Turning and grinding machining centre - for concentric machining of rolls and heavy workpieces

Dual bed slideways eliminate lathe adaptation for grinding and the transference handling required with two machine tools. A lathe (1), comprising a bed (2) headstock (3), one or more saddles (4) with cross slide (5) and a tailstock (7) has steadies (6). A grinding arrangement (10) with bed slideway (11) parallel to the lathe bed (2) has one or more grinding heads (12) with a grinding wheel (13). After rough turning the workpiece (9) between centres, two steady seatings are turned on the lathe and then ground by the grinder. The steadies (6) accept the fine finished seatings. The workpiece is finish machined with true-running, rotation, the centres (14) holding the workpiece (9) axially.
