The breast is clamped against the film plate and filmed from one angle and a second angle at 90 deg. to the first one. The film plate contains the film holder which can be loaded and serviced even when the breast is clamped in position. A non-wrinkling roll of perforable Xray absorbent scanning grid film is arranged between the Xray tube focus and the breast. A holder attaching directly to the adapter rather than the extension tube of the Xray tube is coupled to a puncture needle over a hinged arm which permits multidirectional movement by the needle tip. The needle is on a sliding guide which permits it to be released into the centre of the radiographically detected tumour and remain there for removal of a tissue sample. A hole is provided in the upper clamping plate through which the extension tube or the puncture needle can pass.
