Impulse type heavy - oil burner for tunnel kilns - fine atomizing is achieved by pre-heating oil within kiln

Atomized oil is squirted at approximately one-second intervals into the comparatively low kiln through a fine jet (22) at the extreme end of a supply pipe (14) which projects down into the kiln from roof level. An ejection plate (18), which fits closely above the jet plate (21) is turned to and fro (spindle 10) through perhaps 90 deg., and transmits fuel (15) every time a narrow channel (20) in its lower face moves across the jet opening (22). Variations in fuel viscosity (the burner is designed for both heavy and medium oils) are catered for by using the pressure of the incoming fuel itself to work the motor that drives the jet mechanism. The fuel is heated to 150 deg.C in the jet-supply pipe (14), where this projects into the hot kiln (the water in the fuel vaporizes).
