Counterflow air to air heat exchanger - has tapered connection to inlet openings vertical to main air flow

The heat exchanger (10) is built into an air conditioning system and preheats supply air by indirect heat exchange with exhaust air. It has pairs of inlet and outlet connections for the two streams of air which flow parallel to each other in opposite directions. The connections are formed by grilles in the end faces of the exchanger vertical to the direction of air flow so that the air does not change direction in entering or leaving the exchanger. The plates forming the air passages are parallel to each other in the centre section of the exchanger and tapered in the end sections so that at each end half the passages are connected to an inlet and the other half to an outlet.
