High speed stabilised linear drive motor - with thin flexible guide rail for low vibration

The stationary part of the linear induction drive motor comprises a thin, flexible metal band (5) located between the two parts (3, 1) of the movable part of the motor. For high speed traction the flexibility of the band enables a thin airgap to be maintained, with adequate damping if the band supports are split into parallel arms. The band is enclosed by the upper and lower parts of the motor, and by a fixed wall (9) at one edge. The other edge of the airgap is enclosed by flaps (9) so that an air cushion is trapped in the system for added dampening effect.
