Process for one-bath degreasing and pickling of metal articles, consisting of or contg. Fe, takes place by treating them with aq. solns. contg. water-soluble aromatic nitro cpds., (I) as oxidising agents, in addn. to acids, wetting agents and/or emulsifiers. Used for cleaning surfaces, e.g. of screws and sheet materials, from oils, fats, resins and coked residues. Addn. of (I) allows quick, effective cleaning. Surfaces can be further processed directly, e.g. by electroplating.
