The exhaust manifold which is normally fitted by flanges outside the cylinder head is integrated with the cylinder head and connects the respective exhaust ports with a single flange situated in the centre of one longitudinal engine side. The outer cylinders exhaust channels are joined together and lead by the shortest path to the centre flange. The two inner cylinder exhaust channels are also joined together and lead by the shortest path to the centre flange separated and on a different plane to the outer cylinder exhaust channels. The outer walls of the two exhaust channels follow the cylinder head walls for a considerable distance and take over their functions. The greater part of the channel walls is in contact with cooling water and the push rod chamber neighbouring channel walls are contact with lubricating oil to avoid the dange of cracks due to an equal expansion.
