Asphalt floor covering material - by introducing hot granular mineral aggregate into mixer-adding cold, liquefying hard bitumen granules

Asphalt floor covering material for inside rooms is produced by (a) heating a granular mineral aggregate above the softening point of the bitumen, (b) introducing the hot aggregate into a mixing drum, and (c) adding a cold, granular hard bitumen to the aggregate in the mixing drum, so that the bitumen is converted into the liquid state by the hot aggregate. Gives efficiency mixing of the aggregate with relatively hard bitumen suitable for use as a floor covering material, i.e. having a good resistance to furniture feet. The bitumen is added in the form of solid granules, and appts. for preheating the bitumen, and dosing the liquid bitumens, are unnecessary.
