The mechanism tests the quality of adhesion of a polythene film or layer, or similar adhesive layer, on an undulying surface, typically for use in the food packing industry, in which a sample of the film is stripped off under carefully controlled conditions. The mechanism allows the adhesive tape to be removed in a controlled and monitored way. This is achieved by attaching the adhesive test tape to the sample in a groove in the mechanism, and pulling it off by means of a carriage which travels up a guide at 45 degrees to the surface of the sample. In this way the tape is pulled off vertically from the sample surface. The force is supplied by an elastic band and is monitored by a spring instrument which records the maximum force applied during the test.
