The grab hoist mechanism is partic. for fully automatic operation when handling material in high piles such as pulverised and dried-out blast-furnace slag, having a rope guide, grab winch and two rope drums. Above the hoist and closing drum and also the holding drum are rope pulleys slewing about a central axis between the drum. The central rope falls pass through hollow rotary shafts attached to the frame. As the rope is paid out it is held constantly central, as is the grab. The shafts can run in ball or roller bearings, having eyes at their lower ends to guide the ropes.
