The slewing mechanism is for a grab suspended from the carriage of a ship-unloading crane. The drive mechanism is situated in the power house mounted on the crane gantry, with cables engaging with the carriage at both ends. The cables (18) are reeved via guide pulleys on the carriage (12) to a common set of pulleys (9) for the hoist and closing cables (5, 6) of the grab. The set of pulleys is movable at right angles to the carriage travel direction and a slewing drive (24) generates a differential movement of the two cables (18) independent of their function.
