The junction (3) of the rails (1) and sleepers (2) is where the maximum compaction is applied, by four compactor-implements (4). Two pairs of further compactor-implements (6, 7) are positioned, one (6) on the inside of the track, and the other (7) in front of the sleeper (2), with their direction of movement at right angles to the sleeper sides (2). Vibrating tamping elements (8) which move in a vertical direction are positioned on the side of the compacting-implements (4) facing the rail-sleeper junction-point (3).
